Shall I Apply?

Most career advice tells you how to apply. This book starts with a harder question.

Whether to apply?

Shall I Apply? is a straight-talking guide to navigating your career with clarity and a bit of backbone. It is for professionals who are tired of generic advice, suspicious of five-step frameworks, and looking for something more honest about how the employment market actually works and how good decisions actually get made.

The book covers the questions most career guides avoid. Whether you are following the right thing in the first place. How the hiring process works from the inside, and what that means for how you position yourself. Why a non-linear career history is not a problem to apologise for. What AI is actually doing to recruitment, and what it is not. How to decide whether a role is worth your time before you spend three hours on an application.

It draws on twenty years of recruiting, assessing talent and coaching professionals through decisions they did not always see coming. It is written for people who want to think more clearly about their working lives, not be told what to do with them.

Publication is planned for February 2027.

If you would like to know when it is available, leave your email below. One message when the book is ready. Nothing before that. No weekly updates, no countdown emails, no reminder that you once expressed mild interest in a book about careers. Just the one email, when it exists, telling you it exists. That is a promise, and unlike most career advice, this one comes with no caveats.
